Carbohydrates Utilization During Exercise

Carbohydrates are the primary source of energy during exercise like weight training, running, etc. At lower intensity fat oxidation will supply enough energy for the activity and exercise but at higher intensity carbohydrates are vital.

Exercising at an intensity over 60 percent of VO2 max will cause carbohydrates to supply the majority of the energy as fat oxidation cannot produce enough energy in time. For weight loss it may not be the smartest idea to stack up on carbohydrates but to improve performance they are the perfect source of energy.

We can store up to 300 to 400 grams or 1,600 calories of carbohydrates in the muscles, 100 calories of carbohydrates stored in the liver and another 100 calories stored in the blood stream.

When eating healthy and exercising frequently it is recommended to increase your carbohydrate consumption to provide your body the energy it needs throughout the day. This enough carbohydrates in your diet it can lead to tiredness, staleness, and lack of motivation to train.

So, don;t limit your carbohydrates in your diet even when tiring to achieve weight loss as the only thing you will achieve is over training and burnout.
